Natural beaded wall hanging

Building a diy wind chime is a fun and easy craft activity. The best part is you can use materials you’ve got laying around your house. All you need are supplies that you can hang and dangle so they make noise when windy. In this article, you'll learn how to make a wind chime with beaded decorations.

What is a wind chime?

A wind chime is usually hung outdoors and is made out of materials that move and create sound when they are blown by the wind. Wind chimes can be made from a range of materials like metal, glass, wood, or ceramic and can come in different shapes and sizes.

What are the best materials for creating a homemade wind chime?

Ideal materials for building a diy wind chime can depend on personal preference and the desired sound you are trying to make. Common materials include metal, wood, bamboo and glass. Metal wind chimes produce a clear, ringing sound, whereas wood or bamboo wind chimes produce a softer, more muted sound.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1/  Find a stick approx 10-15mm thick and cut to 25cm long.

2/  Use masking tape and tape around the stick to mask areas and ensure straight lines.  Use acrylic paint in bright colours and paint the areas of the stick that are exposed.  Once dry remove the tape.

3/  You will need 2 x screw eye pins to twist into the stick (Children may need assistance).  Add 2 eyes on top, 3cm in from each edge.

4/  Cut lengths of stringing for the beads to hang. 1 x 30cm long, 2 x 27cm long, 2 x 24cm long.

5/  Tie and knot each of the strings to the stick.  Start with longer length in the middle and shorter lengths on outer edges.

6/  Thread beads onto the strings, random is best alternating colours, bead shapes & types.  You can also knot the string at intervals to add random spacings in between beads.  Once you get to the end of the string, knot tightly and trim. Browse our extensive range of beads here.

7/  For the handle, cut 1 x length of string to 40cm long.  Tie and knot string through eye pin at top.  Thread some beads before tying the other end.
